The billion dollar logging industry that wiped out miles of trees, previously standing for thousands of years, had too much to lose to voluntarily stop.
So I gave up.
Nothing would ever change, so why bother fighting anymore.
I couldn’t care anymore because I’d ran out of hope.
I ran out of hope because I wasn’t constantly regenerating it.
Sheesh, I didn’t know I had to!
Cultivating hope and learning resiliency wasn’t taught in school.
I didn’t grow up in a community that supported these crucial life skills.
I didn’t learn how to do these things until I attended my first cultural repair workshop. We were taught generations worth of native wisdom from cultures around the world.
My entire life I’d felt like everyone else knew the rules for living.
They had it all figured out because they’d been handed The Life Instruction Manual, but apparently I was absent the day they were given out.
But In that workshop I remember thinking, this is it!
This is the instruction manual for being human.
Complete with a check list of elements to ensure a healthy functioning culture, like the importance of initiation, oral traditions, and honoring our ancestors. Also dozens of tools and practices to help individuals live joyfully, compassionately, knowing their gifts, and using them with a sense of purpose.
The culmination of these teachings regenerated my hope.
Sticking with these practices on a daily basis has made my heart resilient, courageous, and grounded.
We teach an important chapter of the Life Instruction Manual in our free 10-day Sitting in Purpose program.
Because life can kick the crap out of you, if you’re not bubbling over with hope.
You'll be happy to know that I’ve since put on my invisible cape and re-committed to save the world again.
Will you be in my League of Justice?
